“We take our lead from Christ, who is the source of everything we do. He keeps us in step with each other. His very breath and blood flow through us, nourishing us so that we will grow up healthy in God, robust in love” (THE MESSAGE Ephesians 4:15, 16).

Churches come in all kinds of shapes and sizes! A micro church is a simple and small expression of God’s people, formed through a set of principles and practices which help us embrace and embody the life of Christ in our everyday lives.

— principles —

So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering” (Romans 12:1-2 THE MESSAGE)

We believe that people flourish in an atmosphere of fun and friendship! We aim to provide space for celebration and contemplation which helps to equip and energise us for everyday life.

Around THE Table

We gather around the table as a place of fellowship and to remind ourselves that our life together is centred around Christ. This is also a place of extension and expansion as we seek to open our table to others.

We meet on Sunday afternoons in various homes to pray and eat together

ONLINE

As well as gathering in person, we also meet online which also provides an opportunity for others to join us. This provides a safe space for us to share ideas and thoughts about the bible and other books.

We gather on Wednesday evenings via Zoom to listen and learn from one another.

everyday life

We encourage one another to take responsibility for our well being and to grow in relationship with God through engaging in everyday practices such as reading the bible, journaling and personal reflection.

We create space each quarter to regularly retreat together.

— PATTERNS —

“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me - watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly” (Matthew 11:28-30 THE MESSAGE)

The different practices we engage in are designed to help us make the most of every moment and to live an emotionally healthy pattern of life on a daily, weekly and annual basis. We follow the Christian calendar involving times of feasting and fasting which helps us to embrace the life of Christ and roots us in God’s story. We recognise that many people find themselves stressed living overstretched lives and so encourage the practice of stillness and weekly Sabbath rest.

— PLACES —

“Seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper” (Jeremiah 29:7)

The recent designation of the ‘University Quarter’ where we live with the aim of creating a vibrant social and cultural environment where young adults can feel confident and develop a greater sense of belonging as part of the wider local community has helped crystalize our vision to play our part in serving and shaping the city of Derby.

Whilst being locally rooted, we are also globally minded and have a passion for people and places further afield - we love going on mini-adventures to engage with and explore the world around us!
